Summary

Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy。 But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper。

In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed, and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable。 But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay。

At the heart of the empire, Teresa Duarte prepares to take on the burden of her father's godlike ambition。 The sociopathic scientist Paolo Cortázar and the Mephistophelian prisoner James Holden are only two of the dangers in a palace thick with intrigue, but Teresa has a mind of her own and secrets even her father the emperor doesn't guess。

And throughout the wide human empire, the scattered crew of the Rocinante fights a brave rear-guard action against Duarte's authoritarian regime。 Memory of the old order falls away, and a future under Laconia's eternal rule -- and with it, a battle that humanity can only lose - seems more and more certain。 Because against the terrors that lie between worlds, courage and ambition will not be enough。。。

Another great sequel and naming some of the ships after famous movies like the Bellerophon from Forbidden Planet and the Tucumcarre from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, just to name a couple I spotted was a nice added touch 🍏

I started reading Tiamat’s Wrath in 2019, within months of finishing book seven, and I hated it。 Persepolis Rising frustrated me beyond belief and IMO has undeniable flaws, not to mention that the story was mediocre in comparison to the previous outstanding instalments。 I couldn’t stand how boring the story was becoming so I decided to abandoned the series and forget that anything past the sixth novel had been published。Fast forward to 2022 - almost three years later - and I’d begun to grow curi I started reading Tiamat’s Wrath in 2019, within months of finishing book seven, and I hated it。 Persepolis Rising frustrated me beyond belief and IMO has undeniable flaws, not to mention that the story was mediocre in comparison to the previous outstanding instalments。 I couldn’t stand how boring the story was becoming so I decided to abandoned the series and forget that anything past the sixth novel had been published。Fast forward to 2022 - almost three years later - and I’d begun to grow curious。 The final book in The Expanse series has been published and I had since watched the final season of the tv adaption。。。 I decided to pick up book eight again and give it a chance。 Wow, I sure am glad I did because this entry is possibly my new favourite! One of the driving factors behind my loathing of the seventh book had been the three-decade time jump which, even now, I feel was poorly handled。 In essence, the authors wrote themselves into a corner and it was a cheap trick to advance the story。 I think I would have been more accepting had they provided evidence that 30-bloody-years had passed, other than, “Oh, everyone has grey hair and their joints ache。” I mean, sooooo much had happened in the few years prior to book 7 and then what, nothing at all? Everything has remained mostly the same since?Giving myself time to accept that the time skip had happened - nearly three years of time apparently - allowed me to read this book without frustration。 Without that frustration I was able to enjoy the book for what it was: a stellar entry that did a fan-fucking-tastic job of everything it set out to achieve。 I also appreciated the alternating POV chapters between the protagonists and the antagonist; between space and atmosphere。 You know what, they even made an effort to show that time had passed in this one! I felt as though you could actually see the cohabitation of different generations and felt the rich history of each unique system。 I’m actually excited to checkout Leviathan Falls now and will be making it a priority read! 。。。more

All's well that ends well, or is it? There are a couple of teasers at the end of this book to give cause to yet another in the series and, lo and behold, the ninth and last of the series came out at the end of November 2021, with the paperback not due out until November this year - grrrr!Nonetheless, it has been a joy re-reading each and every one of the series' books。 I repeat what I have written at least once before - this is how space opera should be written and the series stand up there alon All's well that ends well, or is it? Gripping and engaging space opera from the word go, the scale of the narrative and the concepts within it range from astronomically vast universe shaping events to tiny private thoughts in the protagonists' minds – like worlds viewed through both ends of the telescope at once。Furthermore the story itself is compulsive, encouraging binge reading (just-one-more-chapter syndrome abounds here) and - for those familiar with the central characters after such a long book series – this is especially rew Gripping and engaging space opera from the word go, the scale of the narrative and the concepts within it range from astronomically vast universe shaping events to tiny private thoughts in the protagonists' minds – like worlds viewed through both ends of the telescope at once。Furthermore the story itself is compulsive, encouraging binge reading (just-one-more-chapter syndrome abounds here) and - for those familiar with the central characters after such a long book series – this is especially rewarding when your knowledge of this universe enables you to guess what might be going to happen next。 Yet even as you're celebrating being proven right in one way the plot pulls the rug out from under you in another。 。。。more

I just love the Expanse。 The writers did a great, great job of keeping the universe and relationships ethos alive in this one。 Actually, in all of them。

Tiamat's Wrath is an excellent entry in The Expanse series。 It had been a while since I read #7 so I read a plot summary。 I remembered basically nothing。 Maybe it had just been a while, or I was in a hurry to read #7, but it certainly didn't feel as memorable as the rest of the series。 Tiamat's Wrath fixed that。 Not to spoil anything, but the pace picks up significantly, the threads are coming together, and I suspect we're going to get a satisfying series finale。 After the events between Nemesis Tiamat's Wrath is an excellent entry in The Expanse series。 It had been a while since I read #7 so I read a plot summary。 I remembered basically nothing。 Maybe it had just been a while, or I was in a hurry to read #7, but it certainly didn't feel as memorable as the rest of the series。 Tiamat's Wrath fixed that。 Not to spoil anything, but the pace picks up significantly, the threads are coming together, and I suspect we're going to get a satisfying series finale。 After the events between Nemesis Games and Babylon's Ashes, I sort of felt like they should have wrapped up the story of the Rocinante then, but having read this one, I feel like they made the right decision doing a time skip and bringing it to a more significant conclusion。 。。。more

4 stars。 First third was okay, second third was decent, final third was fucking phenomenal。 Naomi has probably become my favorite Expanse character after this book, and Alex has shot up fairly high as well。 The writers probably took a look at his character after books 5-6 and were like, "This character isn't working as well as the others。 What do we do?" And then wrote his arc in 7-8。 This book's plot was tremendously weak compared to earlier entries in the series, but it is more of a character 4 stars。 First third was okay, second third was decent, final third was fucking phenomenal。 Naomi has probably become my favorite Expanse character after this book, and Alex has shot up fairly high as well。 The writers probably took a look at his character after books 5-6 and were like, "This character isn't working as well as the others。 What do we do?" The 8th book in the Expanse series continue the story cohesively with a few more shock factor moments on the first seven books。 Tiamat's Wrath went a little darker than some of the other books in the series which was a great development for the story。 Well we all know some of the books in the series are more captivating than others, this one landed in the middle for me。 Certainly not the best in the series, but has a tremendous amount to offer to the world and boasts great literary development b The 8th book in the Expanse series continue the story cohesively with a few more shock factor moments on the first seven books。 Tiamat's Wrath went a little darker than some of the other books in the series which was a great development for the story。 Well we all know some of the books in the series are more captivating than others, this one landed in the middle for me。 Certainly not the best in the series, but has a tremendous amount to offer to the world and boasts great literary development by the authors。 As always I would recommend this series to anyone who loves science fiction and politics。 。。。more

i’ve really struggled with the expanse over time—i love the ambition, the world building, the ideas, (most of) the plots, but typically don’t particularly enjoy the reading experience itself。 this was a complete shift in that。 this is the expanse at its best, zero weak links or scenes that could have been cut。 the time jump in the prior book was a deeply ballsy move that easily could have not worked, but tiamat’s wrath shows the wisdom of that writing choice, and of the dramatic plot moments the i’ve really struggled with the expanse over time—i love the ambition, the world building, the ideas, (most of) the plots, but typically don’t particularly enjoy the reading experience itself。 this was a complete shift in that。 this is the expanse at its best, zero weak links or scenes that could have been cut。 the time jump in the prior book was a deeply ballsy move that easily could have not worked, but tiamat’s wrath shows the wisdom of that writing choice, and of the dramatic plot moments the writers are unafraid to commit to。i’m now actually excited to read the last book?? and it actually feels bittersweet to reach the end of this series (officially the longest book commitment i’ve ever had)i’m experimenting with not rating books but this would easily be a five star, even at my pickiest 。。。more

Yes, yes, YES! This is everything I wanted after the finale of Season 6。 Book 7 was good, but I gave it 4 stars cause it was more of the same。 Just slower and claustrophobic cause the majority of it happens in a single location。 I wanted more about the entities in the gates, protomolecule and so on。Book 8 delivered! A clear 5 stars from me!Gonna go sleep on the ending and start Book 9 first thing tomorrow。
